Creating Raised Text (Label Gun Text) with Photoshop
This tutorial shows the steps required to create text that looks as though it was created with one of those label guns.
Open a new file at 400x200 pixels with the dpi set at 72 and the mode set to RGB.
Create a new layer and call it "Text". Choose a bright plastic-looking color and fill the layer.

TIP: You can easily fill the current layer with the current forground color by pressing the ALT-BACKSPACE key combination.
Select the "Channels" palette and create a new channel. Leave it set to the default name of #4.
Fill the channel with white. Set the foreground color to black and enter some text. I used the "Modern" font at 150 pixels.
TIP: You can quickly and easily center the text by using CTRL-X (cut) CTRL-V (paste).

De-select the text, choose FILTERS, BLUR, GAUSSIAN BLUR, and blur the image with a setting of 3.0.

Use the Magic Wand tool set at a tolerance of 40 to select the white areas of the graphic. Make sure that you select the areas in the center of the letters like "e" and "o" etc. This can be done by holding down the SHIFT key while making the selections.
Choose SELECTIONS, NVERT. The Blurred text should now be selected.

Select the Layers palette to go back to the "Text" layer. (Your colored rectangle should appear.)
Choose FILTERS, RENDER, LIGHTING EFFECTS and use the following settings:
- Style: 2AMSPOT
- Light Type: SPOTLIGHT
- Intensity: 24
- Focus: 34
- Gloss: 0
- Material: -46
- Exposure: 0
- Ambience: 4
- Texture Channel: #4
- White is High: Checked
- Height: 50
Manipulate the light so that it comes in from the bottom-right, and be sure that all of the selected letters are bright. This can be done by drawing the light closer to the letters and widening the oval to a circular shape.

De-select the selection by choosing SELECTIONS, NONE.
