Creating a Page Curl Effect with Paint Shop Pro
The following tutorial will demonstrate how you can create a page curl effect without using expensive, third-party plug-ins. To demonstrate this effect we'll draw a yellow sticky note and curl up its corner. You can, of course, use this effect to curl up the corner of any image you'd like, including any photograph you'd like to use on your web pages.
Open a new 200x200x16.7 million color image and fill it with a bright yellow.
Set the foreground color to white, select the line tool and draw a 1 pixel wide line from the lower left corner of the image across to the right and up a little (see figure 17.1).

Select the Flood Fill tool and make sure that the options are set as follows:
- Match Mode: RGB Mode
- Tolerance: 0
- Fill Style: Solid Color
Click anywhere in the lower part of the image to fill it with white (see figure 17.2).

Set the foreground color to a darker shade of the yellow. This can be done by clicking on the foreground color swatch which will bring up the Color dialog box (see figure 17.3).

In the dialog box you'll notice a slider to the right. This enables you to choose lighter/darker shades of the current color.
Select the Paint Brushes tool and set the options as follows:
- Brush Type: Normal
- Size Shape: 1
- Shape: Round
- Paper Texture: None
Draw a semi-circle up from the lower-right corner of the yellow shape (see figure 17.4).

Select the Line tool and set the Width to 3. Draw a line from the top of the circular line to the lower-left corner of the image. Draw another line from the lower-right corner of the yellow area to the lower-left corner of the image (see figure 17.5).

Set the foreground color to something between the bright yellow and the dark yellow. Select the Flood fill tool (keep the options set to the same as above) and fill in the curl (see figure 17.6).
 |
| figure 17.6 |
Set the foreground color to a really light shade of the yellow (almost white), select the Line tool and draw a line from about one-third of the way down from the top of the circular line to the lower-left corner of the image (see figure 17.7).

Select the Magic Wand tool. Click anywhere in the larger yellow area to select it. Hold down the shift key and click in the white bottom part of the image to select it as well. Choose Selections, Invert. You should now have only the curl selected.
Choose Image, Normal Filters, Blur More. Repeat this one more time. The curl will now have a soft blend from shadow to highlight to medium to shadow (see figure 17.8).
